VUMC Amsterdam

For our client MedicomZes, we provided the steel structure for the new construction ‘VUmc RDC and Atrium in Amsterdam’. The new RDC building is connected to the existing VUmc building through a beautiful glass atrium.

After the construction holiday in 2022, we started reinforcing the structure in the existing basement, where we provided the basement deck with 181 tons of temporary steel, mainly HEB 500, to support the pouring of the first-floor slab.

Between the existing building and the new RDC, a beautiful Atrium was erected with truss girders of nearly 24m, with boxed 20m long IPE600 columns weighing 8T each. By digitally measuring and adjusting the girders to the actual dimensions, a snug fit between the new construction and the existing structure was created.

The 6th floor of the RDC was equipped with a roof structure consisting of approximately 150T of steel including roof plates and partially fire-resistant coating.
