De Boer vegetables and fruit at Westwoud

Holland Staal has gained enormous experience within the agricultural sector and has built up a very good reputation.

Not surprisingly, W. de Boer – a family business specialized in fruits and vegetables – approached us for the design and construction of a new hall. There were some height restrictions, imposed by the zoning plan, we understood from the client. They wondered if we could handle that.

Ben Verhoef (Technical Director) about the project:

“So, we couldn’t really go high. To create the desired interior space, we formed the spans from tapered grid girders placed 10 meters apart. And by using grid girders as roof purlins, we were able to reach the maximum prescribed height. This also saved money financially; we didn’t have to build costly underslung and stability structures.”
